What To Expect
Because of the open design of our M.R.I. system, any claustrophobic effects are minimized. However, M.R.I. exams are time consuming, and depending on the area of your body being examined, you can expect to spend approximately an hour in our facility.
If you have been prescribed any pain medications or muscle relaxers please take them before your exam, as instructed. Your medication will help make you more comfortable during your exam, and will not interfere with your exam, and will not interfere with your exam's interpretation. Any other medications should be taken as recommended, unless your physician instructs you otherwise. There are no dietary restrictions indicated for M.R.I. exams. If you are having an abdominal M.R.I., you may be asked not to eat during the six hours prior to your appointment time.
Because of the magnetic field, you will be asked to leave the following items in a safe place outside the scan room:
| Credit Cards | Coins | |
| Keys | Jewelry | |
| Hair Pins | Watches | |
| Other Metal Objects | Glasses |
You may also be asked to remove makeup, dentures and wear a hospital gown to avoid magnetic interference from belt buckles or zippers.
Once you are situated onto the table, make sure you are comfortable so that it is easy to keep still. Breathe normally, as there is nothing about the procedure to make you uncomfortable. The only thing you will notice is a faint knocking sound.
